Route Details
The "Nature and Culture Route of Central Greece – OEDIPUS" program is being developed by the Region of Central Greece following a proposal by the "DIAZOMA" association. This initiative is a flagship and holistic cultural tourism product for the Region of Central Greece, designed around the most significant natural and cultural landmarks in seven selected hubs of the region:
a) Chalkida – Eretria (Euboea), b) Delphi (Mount Parnassus),
c) Karpenisi (Evrytania), d) Thermopylae (Kamena Vourla – Lamia – Lamia
Castle – Mount Oeti), e) Thebes, f) Orchomenus (Boeotia), g) Skyros.
The proposed model for the Central Greece Route follows a "network of routes" pattern rather than a linear approach (e.g., the Egnatia Odos), addressing the natural fragmentation characteristic of Central Greece.
The managing organization for the route, i.e. the Destination Marketing and Management Organization (DMO) is Euboea Development S.A.
The program is supported by a total funding of €86,100,000, which comes from a combination of sources, including the Integrated Spatial Investments (ISI), Public Investment Program, and private funds, thanks to collaboration among multiple funding pillars. The Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) framework acts as an umbrella and a connecting link (financial and operational) for the program, with a dedicated budget of €2.5 million.
