The Local Holiday of September 10th
The celebration of September 10th is an annual religious holiday in the Municipality of Orchomenos, now officially recognized as an official local holiday. The day commemorates the miraculous intervention of the Virgin Mary, which saved the residents of Skripou and Petromagoula from the German occupation forces, averting yet another holocaust. On the day of the celebration, a procession takes place to the site of the Panagiophaneia along the avenue of the same name. At the shrine marking the site of the miracle, visitors can read the following inscription:
THE GREAT MIRACLE OF THE VIRGIN MARY
To the invincible defender and Mother of God, who from the heavens acted on behalf of the Boeotian land of Skripou and Petromagoula, saving it from certain destruction and mass slaughter during the year of oppression and occupation, 1943, on the night
of September 9th at the twelfth hour of midnight from the vandal German hordes, we reverently dedicate this stele as a small token of infinite gratitude.
The grateful and devout residents of Skripou and Petromagoula.
