Orchomenus Archaeological Park

The “DIAZOMA” association has worked collaboratively with all its social partners to create the Archaeological Park of Orchomenus in Boeotia, a unique site that also serves as a key feature of the Central Greece cultural route “Oedipus”.
The park includes an exceptionally rare ensemble of monuments of great cultural significance: The Tholos Tomb of Minyas (1250 BCE), the Ancient Theatre of Orchomenus (3rd century BCE) and the Panagia Skripou, a rare Byzantine monument of the transitional type, cross-in-square domed church (9th century CE). Leveraging the significant resources of the "piggy bank" dedicated to ancient theatre, DIAZOMA has commissioned all the necessary studies for the creation of the archaeological park.
This project is being carried out within the framework of the Regional Operational Program for Central Greece (ESPA 2014–2020) and the Public Investment Program of Central Greece, with a total budget of €6,500,000.
The project includes the restoration of the ancient theatre of Orchomenus, implemented by the Boeotia Ephorate of Antiquities and four additional projects managed by the Municipality of Orchomenus. These projects involve the landscaping of surrounding areas and pathways, the restoration of the cells and presbytery building of the Church of Panagia Skripou and rehabilitation of its surrounding area.
The Archaeological Park of Orchomenus in Boeotia is a project of great significance. It will contribute both to the preservation and promotion of these monuments and to their integration into the sustainable development and long-term viability of the region.
