Municipal District of Akraifnia

The Akraifnia region is located in northeastern Boeotia and includes the townships of Akraifnio (the area's center), Kastro, and Kokkinos, as well as the Skroponeri coastal area in the Euboean Gulf. Akraifnia occupies a strategic geographical position, connecting Boeotia with the Euboean Gulf via the bay of Skroponeri.
Between 1912 and 1998, Akraifnio was the seat of its own independent community. Following the implementation of the Kapodistrias Plan in 1999, it became the administrative center of the expanded Municipality of Akraifnio, which also included the former communities of Kokkinos and Kastro. Since 2011, under the Kallikratis Plan, Akraifnio has been administratively part of the Municipality of Orchomenus. Until 1933, Akraifnio was known as Karditsa. Today, it remains a vibrant community and serves as the seat of the Municipal Unit of Akraifnia. The patron saint of the village is Saint George.
